Hi everyone,
I am new to this site, and looking forward to exploring and meeting you all.
I have an immediate problem: I have three 604C duplexes, one of which is in need of repair. The voice coil is blown. Anyone know where I can get it repaired within 100 miles of NYC, or in the alternative, anywhere in the USA? AST in lower Manhattan no longer seems to be in business.
For the curious, these speakers are part of a system that includes two New York Audio Lab versions of the Julius Futterman output transformerless monoblocks, a Beard P505 preamp, a dbx 20/20 equalizer, the VPI Mark II table with a Sumiko MMT arm and a Benz Micro cartridge, and a Rega CD player. Sounds great, you should try it!
cheers,
vinyl-rider

Hey Vinyl Rider, how are you? AST went out a few years ago, and there are some recone places that can order the parts from Great Plains Audio, and do decent work, BUT, your best bet if you REALLY care about these things is to ship them to Bill at Great Plains Audio in Oklahoma, and have them recone it!
His workmanship is excellent, the prices are reasonable, and so is the shipping costs, JUST PACK THEM PROPERLY!
BTW, my name is Scott and I use Altec 421 woofers for commercial use, I am in Brooklyn, and have the Eldorado Bumper cars at Coney Island, and I use GPA to recone my Altec woofers! Our system originally was purchased at AST, NY, and we used to have our drivers serviced there, but they are no more!
Send your 604,s to GPA, and youll be happy!
